In a harrowing scene that unfolded across multiple Melbourne suburbs, a dramatic police pursuit ended in the arrest of a 36-year-old Point Cook man — leaving behind a trail of wreckage, public fear, and a deeply shaken family.
According to 7NEWS, the incident began early Friday morning when a van, allegedly stolen from St Kilda Road around 5:40am, was spotted driving dangerously through areas including Melbourne, Port Melbourne, Spotswood, Carnegie, Sunshine, Dandenong, and Point Cook.
Eyewitness footage shared by 7NEWS showed the white van, visibly damaged and emitting sparks, recklessly weaving through traffic, striking both parked and moving vehicles. The chase culminated in a shocking moment when the suspect leapt from the still-moving van and was subsequently struck by a police car during the arrest.
The man was taken to hospital under police guard with non-life-threatening injuries, and authorities have confirmed he is expected to face a string of serious charges.

In the wake of public concern and widespread media coverage, the suspect’s parents have issued a heartfelt statement to 7NEWS, expressing their sorrow and disappointment over their son’s actions.
“While we love our son, we are devastated and heartbroken by what has occurred,” the statement reads.
They made it clear that, contrary to earlier impressions, they will not be taking any legal action or lodging complaints against Victoria Police. The family emphasized their gratitude toward the officers involved and clarified that their previous comments were misunderstood.
“We regret any misunderstanding and wish to be clear about where we stand.
We thank Victoria Police for their actions and for removing him from the streets before further harm could occur.”
“We Do Not Defend His Actions”
In an emotional moment of accountability, the parents explicitly condemned their son’s behavior:
“We want to make it unequivocally clear that we do not condone, defend or minimise our son’s actions in any way.
What he did placed hundreds of lives at risk, instilled fear in the community and could have easily ended in tragedy.”
They acknowledged the terrifying impact the incident may have had on the public and expressed deep remorse to anyone affected.
